Nothing like family

Monday, 27 March 2023

My birth mother’s husband has a terminal cancer condition and they have started forward planning the funeral. My sister and I were removed from our “family” when we were young, I was 10 months and she was 2 years older. We have since made contact with her some years prior to the medical diagnosis.

My sister and I were told we wouldn’t be coming to the funeral as it’s “only for friends and family” and this would not include my sister nor myself.

Out of sight and out of mind indeed. I don’t know what I was expecting. I wasn’t expecting something like happy families but I did expect to at least be treated like I was her child, her son. Instead my half sister is going and it just feels like we’re being replaced all over again.
